We want this website to be usable by as many people as possible, including people using a screen reader, navigating by keyboard, or viewing the site at a large text size.
What we are aiming for
This site was built to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA.
What that means here
- Everything can be operated with a keyboard alone, and the focus indicator is always visible.
- A skip link at the top of every page jumps straight to the main content.
- Body text and headings exceed the AA contrast requirement against every background used on the site, and most combinations meet the stricter AAA level.
- Pages use proper headings, landmarks and lists, so the structure makes sense when read aloud.
- Form fields have permanently visible labels, not placeholder text that vanishes when you type, and errors are described in words, not just colour.
- Images that carry meaning have alt text. Decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers rather than announced.
- If your device is set to reduce motion, the animations are switched off rather than merely shortened.
- The site works at 200% zoom and reflows to a 320px-wide screen without horizontal scrolling.
- Buttons and links are large enough to tap accurately.
- The main content, navigation and forms work with JavaScript switched off.
How this was assessed
By us, not by an independent auditor. We tested keyboard navigation, focus order, heading structure, landmarks, colour contrast, text zoom, reduced motion and behaviour with JavaScript disabled, and fixed what we found.
Self-assessment catches most problems but not all of them, and it is not the same as testing with disabled users. We would rather say that plainly than imply a level of certification we do not have.
Known limitations
- Where a before-and-after comparison slider appears on a case study, it is an enhancement layered over two clearly labelled images. On touch devices, with reduced motion enabled, or without JavaScript, you get the labelled pair instead, which is complete in itself.
- Website screenshots in our portfolio show other people’s websites. We cannot guarantee the accessibility of a site we did not build, and the screenshots themselves are images with descriptive alt text rather than readable text.
- Content added after launch depends on whoever adds it. Alt text and heading structure are the two things most easily got wrong.
