Web design for beauty salons and aesthetics clinics

Instagram gets them interested. The website gets them booked.

Social media is where people find a clinic and where they decide it looks good. The website is where they check the prices, work out whether it is right for them, and actually book, and where the advertising rules apply.

  • From £400
  • Booking system integrated
  • Written with the advertising rules in mind

The problem

What this sector has to get right

Two problems most web designers do not know exist, and two that everyone has.

  • You cannot legally advertise prescription-only treatments

Botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medicine, and under the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 prescription-only medicines cannot be advertised to the public, directly or indirectly. The ASA treats naming the best-known brand on a website, a price list or a social post as a breach, and enforcement has been increasing. You can promote a consultation for the treatment of lines and wrinkles; you cannot promote the drug. A web designer who does not know this will put the brand name in your page titles and hand you a problem.

  • Prices decide whether they book

Beauty and aesthetics clients expect a price list. A site without one loses bookings to the salon down the road that published theirs, because nobody wants to ring and ask what a facial costs.

  • They will book at half past ten at night

Long after you have closed. If the only way to book is to phone during opening hours, you are losing the bookings made in the moment somebody decides.

  • It has to look like the standard of the work

This is an aesthetics business. A dated website contradicts the entire proposition in a way it would not for a plumber.

What it needs

What the website needs

Compliance, prices and round-the-clock booking.

Copy written to stay inside the rules

Treatments described by what they do rather than by prescription-only brand names, consultations promoted rather than medicines, and no before-and-after claims that create an expectation of a specific result. We write it that way from the start and you have it checked.

A full, current price list

Every treatment, every price, easy to keep updated. From-prices where a consultation genuinely determines the cost.

Online booking that works on a phone

Integrated with whichever system you use, reachable in one tap from every page. The single biggest lever on bookings in this sector.

Structure

The pages we would build

  • Home

The room, the work, the price list and the booking button.

  • Treatments

Grouped sensibly, with a page for each significant category. Described by outcome, within the rules.

  • Prices

The whole list, kept current. One of the most-visited pages on any salon site.

  • About and the team

Qualifications and registrations, stated accurately. In aesthetics particularly, clients are increasingly checking who is actually treating them.

  • Aftercare

Genuinely useful, reduces the number of worried calls, and quietly signals competence.

  • Book

Or the booking system embedded throughout.

Mistakes

What gets clinics into trouble

  • Naming a prescription-only medicine anywhere on the site

Page titles, treatment names, prices, image filenames, meta descriptions. It is the commonest breach in the sector and it is entirely avoidable at the point the site is written.

  • Before-and-after images used as a promise

Results vary by person, and presenting one client's outcome as what a new client can expect creates an unjustified expectation. Used carefully and with consent they have a place; used as advertising they are a risk.

  • A price list nobody can update

Prices change. If updating them means emailing a developer, they will go stale, and a stale price list costs you bookings and arguments.

FAQs

Questions from salons and clinics

So how do I advertise treatments at all?

You promote the consultation and the outcome rather than the medicine. "Consultations for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles" is fine; naming the prescription-only product is not. We write it that way and you or your prescriber check it before it goes live. We build the site, we are not your regulatory adviser.

Are you sure about that rule?

It comes from the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 and is enforced through the ASA and the MHRA. It applies regardless of who administers the treatment. It is worth reading the ASA's own guidance, and worth asking any designer who has not mentioned it what else they do not know about your sector.

Can I keep using my existing booking system?

Yes. We integrate what you already use rather than making you migrate. If it works badly on a phone we will say so, because that is where nearly all your bookings come from.

Do I need a website if my Instagram is busy?

Yes, and for a reason that has nothing to do with vanity: you do not own the Instagram account in any meaningful sense. It can be lost, hacked or restricted, and it takes your entire customer route with it. The website is the part that is actually yours.
