Web design

A website that does the selling for you.

Custom-designed, written for you, quick on a phone and built so search engines can actually read it. This page explains exactly what you are buying and how the whole thing runs.

  • From £400
  • Content written for you
  • 50% to start
  • One round of revisions

Included

What you get

Everything below is in every package. None of it is an upgrade.

  • A design made for your business

Not a theme with your logo dropped in the corner. We look at what you sell, who buys it and who else is competing for that customer, then design something that fits. Two businesses in the same trade should not end up with the same website.

  • All the words, written

We interview you about the business and write every page. Most people find this the hardest part of getting a website and put the whole project off for a year because of it. You read the draft and correct the facts; you never face an empty page.

  • Built for the phone first

More than half the people who find you will be on a phone, often outdoors, often in a hurry. We design for that screen first and let it grow into a desktop layout, rather than shrinking a desktop design and hoping.

  • Fast, because slow costs you

Images sized properly, minimal JavaScript, no bloated builder. A site that takes five seconds to appear loses people who would have called you.

  • An enquiry route that works

A contact form that reaches your inbox and gets stored on the site as a backup, so a bounced email never means a lost enquiry. Click-to-call and WhatsApp where you use them.

  • The search basics done right

Every page gets its own title and description, a sensible heading structure, image alt text, a sitemap and structured data describing your business. This is the groundwork, and it is included.

  • The whole setup handled

Domain, hosting, DNS, SSL, email forwarding, Google Search Console. If you already have some of it, we work with what is there. If you do not, we sort it.

  • A round of revisions

You see the site, mark up what needs changing, and we change it. One agreed round is included in the price; in practice most projects need one pass and a couple of tweaks.

The difference

Why these sites work harder

It answers the question people actually have

Most small-business sites explain what the company does. The good ones answer what the customer is worried about: will they turn up, what does it cost, have they done this before, how fast can they come out.

The next step is always obvious

Every page knows what it wants you to do next. No dead ends, no page that leaves you scrolling to find a phone number.

It is honest about what you do

We would rather write "we do three things properly" than list twelve services you half-offer. Specific beats broad when someone is choosing between you and two competitors.

Process

How the build runs

Three steps. Two of them are ours.

  • 1. Tell us about the business

Half an hour, on the phone or in person. What the business does, who your customers are, what you want more of, what you have tried before. We will also ask what people always ring up and ask, because that usually becomes a page. Then you pay the deposit, which is what puts the week in the diary and starts the work.

  • 2. We design and build it

Copy first, then design around it. Writing to fit a layout that already exists is how sites end up saying nothing. You see the page structure before we build, then you get a real site on a real link that you can open on your phone, not a flat picture of what it might look like.

  • 3. Review and launch

Read it properly and check the facts, the prices, the service names, the areas you cover. Send everything back in one go and we work through it. Then the balance is due, we point the domain, check it all works on the live address and submit the sitemap. You get a short handover on updating it yourself.

Content

About the words and the pictures

Writing your own website is the reason most small businesses have been meaning to sort it out since 2021. So we do it.

What we need from you is knowledge, not prose: what you actually do, what you do not do, the jobs you would like more of, the questions customers always ask, and anything that would embarrass you if we got it wrong. A half-hour conversation is usually enough.

On images: your own photographs of your own work beat anything else, by a distance. A roofer's phone photo of a finished roof is worth more than any stock library. If you have not got any, tell us and we will work out what the site needs. Sometimes that is properly licensed stock, sometimes it is a design that leans on type and layout rather than photography.

What we will not do is fill your site with pictures of models in hard hats pretending to be your team. People can tell, and it undoes exactly the trust the website is meant to build.

Search

What is included on search, and what is not

Every Malnor website is built so search engines can crawl it, understand it and work out what you do and where. That means unique page titles and descriptions, a clean heading structure, fast loading, alt text on images, an XML sitemap, structured data about your business, and pages aimed at the things people actually type. It is included, it is not an upsell, and it is the foundation everything else sits on.

What it is not is an ongoing SEO campaign. Getting a competitive term in York or Harrogate takes months of content, links, reviews and reputation. That is a different job with a different budget, and pretending a one-week build does it would be dishonest.

If you want that ongoing work, we do it, and it is quoted on what your market actually looks like. If you do not, the site will still be properly built and still be findable for the things you would expect it to be findable for.

Ownership

Who owns what, and where it lives

The website is yours once the final payment is made. Not licensed, not rented. Yours.

The domain gets registered in your name, even when we handle the setup. This matters more than it sounds: a domain registered to your web designer is the single most common way small businesses find themselves stuck with someone they no longer want to work with.

Hosting is your choice. We offer it as part of Website Care at £29 a month, which also covers updates, backups, security monitoring and small changes. Plenty of clients take it because they would rather not think about it. If you would rather host it yourself or keep an existing arrangement, that is genuinely fine, and we will hand over what you need to move it.

Industries

Websites for your industry

The problem a roofer needs a website to solve is not the problem a solicitor has. These pages go into what customers in each trade are actually looking for.

FAQs

Questions about the build

What counts as a page?

A page is something with its own address and its own content: Home, About, a service page, Contact. Your privacy policy, cookie policy, terms and the thank-you page after the form do not count against the allowance. They are part of building it properly.

What if I need six pages, not five?

Then we quote for the extra page before you commit, so you know the full cost up front rather than finding out at the end.

Do you build online shops?

Selling online changes the job substantially: payments, stock, delivery, tax, returns. It is possible, it falls under an advanced build, and we would scope and quote it rather than guess.

Can you work with the website I already have?

Often, yes. If it is on WordPress and reasonably built, improving it may be better value than starting again, and we will tell you if that is the case even though it is the smaller job.

What happens if I want changes after it goes live?

Small things like a phone number, a price, a paragraph or an image are covered by Website Care if you are on it, or charged for the time if you are not. New pages and new functionality get quoted.

Do you charge for a call?

No. The first conversation is free and there is no obligation at the end of it. If we are not the right fit we will say so.
